Distribution: Uruguay (western to southern); Argentina (to centraleastern)

Habitat: epiphyte along the margins of forests, as well as in open thorny forests, in temperate-warm climate, 0-170 m. Elev. img

Etymology: This species is named after its flowers, which have persistently closed corollas [from the Greek: κλειστός (cleisto) = closed; πέταλα (petala) = petals]. The term cleistopetaly has been defined as the permanent closure of the perianth (Jackson 1928, Font Quer 2001)

Phenology: Flowers in August and September (obligately cleistogamous)
