Encholirium oreadicum (Forzza & Antar) P.J. Braun & K.-H. Tank, (comb. nov.) |
Distribution: BRAZIL: Tocantins
Habitat: Saxicolous on rocky outcrops in the Cerrado domain, ca 400 m. Elev.
Etymology: The specific epithet oreadica refers to the Cerrado domain where the new species occurs. Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius, one of the editors of the magnificent Flora Brasiliensis (1840 to 1906), used Oreas, a Greek word representing a mountain nymph, to refer to the savannas of central Brazil (currently known as the Cerrado), which was one of Martius' Brazilian phytogeographic provinces.
