Dyckia emdeana P.J.Braun |
Permanent URL
Distribution: BRAZIL: Minas Gerais
Habitat: terrestrial, Campo Cerrado, in stony-loamy soil with a high quartz content, surrounded by many herbs, grasses and low shrubs
Etymology: The species is named after Birgit Emde, who was trained as a gardener in the Bonn University Botanical Gardens from 1986 to 1988 with Werner Höller (Rhipsalis hoelleri Barthlott & N.P.Taylor). It was during this time that the plants of Dyckia emdeana collected in 1987 arrived at the gardens. Today she is the gardener responsible for the succulents and bromeliads. Thanks to her prudent care, it has been possible to cultivate the plants in good health for almost 40 years and repeatedly bring them to flower.
Phenology: In cultivation Dyckia emdeana flowers in September/October.
