Etymology: The species was found growing on the forest floor close to the ocean by the botanist, Dorothy Sue Dunn de Araujo - specialist in Brazilian sandy coastal plain vegetation and member of the Editorial Board of the Sociedade Brasileira de Bromelias - whom we honor with this new species
