Etymology: The epithet refers to the rose colour of the bracts at anthesis, as well as the pink colour of the petals; rosea, lat. = rose.
Phenology: Phenology distinguishes between the closely related species too: Bromelia rosea starts to produce flowers in central Brazil in cultivation from June to September (in the dry period), B. macedoi from October to January (in the rainy period) and B. charlesii from May to July (in the cold period).
