Distribution: Ecuador.: Morona-Santiago, Zamora-Chinchipe

Habitat: Epiphyte in the montane rainforest of Amazonia, forming dense clumps on tree trunks, in the upper canopy of the forest, propagating by short stolons, 845-1600 m. Elev.

Etymology: The name honors the American bromeliad collector and grower Chester Skotak, born in Texas, U.S.A. As a world-renowned bromeliad hybridizer, he has led numerous plant collecting expeditions throughout Central and South America and has introduced countless unusual bromeliad hybrids into horticulture. Living in Alajuela, Costa Rica, since 1978, he has also added several new country records to the bromeliad Flora of Costa Rica
