Distribution: BRAZIL: Santa Catarina (county of Campo Alegre not far from the border with Paraná State.)

Habitat: It grows in the exposed sites of the “Campos de Altitude”, as well as in more protected, shady condition of the gallery forest, 1200-1450 m. Elev.

Etymology: The name of Aechmea rubroaristata is a reference of the eyecatching bright red color of its floral bracts and sepals, combined with the aristatespinescent floral bracts.
