- HABITAT and distribution. Bromelia dilatata was discovered by the first author, E. Esteves Pereira, in 1986, growing on surface rock formations in the municipality of Barra do Garças, State of Mato Grosso, Brazil at an altitude of 710 m, sympatric with some others Bromeliaceae, for instance Dyckia sp., Tillandsia sp. and Aechmea tocantina Baker. After many years of continuous research, a few other habitats were discovered in the region of Caiapônia, Goiás State and in the direction of Nova Xavantina, Mato Grosso State. —See Esteves et al. 2012
