- -Habitat and Range: Besides the type locality in Guerrero above Milpillas the species was also found in Guerrero, on the road from Salitrera to Altamirano, in Oaxaca near Yosondua and near Tecomatlan and in Zacatecas near San Luis Capistrano. It seems to be spread throughout Mexico.
Interesting is that also in the same area the typical Tillandsia atroviridipetala can also occur. We found the species in dense bushland in Oaxaca near to Yosondua, growing with small Tillandsia atroviridipetala sometimes even on the same bush. Also on our trip in February 2006, we found both species growing together on the same tree at the same location in Guerrero on the road from El Pochote towards Ichcapucalco.
Cultivation: Tillandsia grandispica is one of those species, that are not easy to cultivate. It is most recommended to cultivate the plants outside in summer in a shady area. In winter Tillandsia grandispica should not be kept too cold. —See Ehlers 2009a
