This new species was found growing on inclined granitic surfaces covered by herbaceous to shrubby vegetation in inselbergs of the region of Itabirinha de Mantena, Minas Gerais State, where it forms sparsely distributed groups of plants. In contrast, its closest morphological relative, A. nevaresii, is a typical inhabitant of the mountains of Teresópolis and Nova Friburgo (Leme, 1995), where it forms quite large and dense populations. —SeeJ.
