- According to the information provided by its collector, Cryptanthus crassifolius thrives in the valley of Mato Grosso River, in the domain of the "Campos Rupestres", in shrubby vegetation. It was found in growing terrestrially amidst rock outcrops in more or less open and sun-exposed areas. —See J. Bromeliad Soc.
