Notes
We discovered this interesting succulent Dyck¬ia species in 1988 on a trip to Mato Grosso do Sul while in search of the rare Discocactus pachythele, which had been lost since its initial 1966 discovery by Leopoldo Horst and Werner Uebelmann. We have since revisited habitats of this new species many times, and we have taken time to hunt down and study some related taxa a well, including D. paucispina and D. beateae. Due to the ferocious nature of its large marginal teeth, we have christened this plant "grandidentata."
Grows among shrubs and trees on naked, reddish black rocks together with orchids and cacti (Cereus bicolor, Discocactus pachythele, Pilosocereus jauruensis). —SeeMatuda 1973a
