Puya cuevae Manzanares & W.Till

Comments:
- P. cuevae inhabits the humid Ecuadorian paramos that are covered by low clouds most of the year and constantly whipped by strong winds. Without a doubt, it is the most beautiful Puya in its vegetative state, with its leaves armored with jet black spines. At flowering, the small rosette becomes disproportionate in size because of the large inflorescence. The antrorse and retrorse 0.5 mm long spines do not have a chestnut-brown spot at the base, as does P. maculata. —See Manzanares 2005
