OBSERVATIONS. P. deroosei is a terrestrial or semi-epiphytic (climbing on tree trunks) species that grows in dense groups. It forms long branched stems that adhere to tree trunks or are supported among low shrub vegetation in forest or along footpaths.
Its inclined inflorescence stands out because of the clear brown floral bracts, which, at the beginning, protect the flowers. The floral bracts dry at the same time the sepals begin to develop. Disintegrating floral bracts are broken by the erect sepals before anthesis. The 34 mm long red sepals remain erect until the moment of anthesis, after which they hang slightly. —SeeManzanares 2005
