Pitcairnia chiquitana grows as a saxicolous herb on rocky outcrops on the slopes of the huge rock dome of El Porton, close to the village of Chochis, east of the department's capital Santa Cruz de la Sierra, between the Jesuits' mission San Jose de Chiquitos and Robore. It is sympatric with bromeliads such as Aechmea tocantina Baker, Ananas ananassoides (Baker) L. B. Sm., Billbergia meyeri Mez and Bromelia serra Griseb. Pitcairnia platystemon was not observed at this site. —SeeVidalia, Revista da
