Distribution & Habitat
Endemic to Serra da Bocaina on the border between Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, N. bocainense grows in the understory of moist Atlantic slope forest, forming populations on the forest floor. This species has never been recorded as an epiphyte. Its populations seem to be concentrated within the limits of Bocaina National Park.
There is a single clone in cultivation, descended from the type specimen —SeeLeme 2000a
