Forzza 2001 - Doubtful species
Encholirium belemii seems to be a species different from the others presented for the genus in this work. As mentioned above, this taxon was described based on five exsiccatas. However, it was only possible to just examine the holotype, deposited in US and one of the isotypes deposited in NY, the other materials that should be in the herbaria CEPEC, IAN and UB were not located. Smith & Read (1989), in the protologue of the species, supply data on habit and leaves. However, the two examined specimens were just very young inflorescences, which complicates the characterization and recognition of this taxon. This way, we considered that just one new collection in the type locality or location of the other isotypes would solve this problem. —SeeForzza 2001
