Distribution & Habitat
Edmundoa ambigua is endemic to the moist Atlantic slope forest in southern Rio de Janeiro state and neighboring areas of Sao Paulo. It is an epiphyte of the forest understory, but also grows on the trunk and branches near the canopy. It is more
common at altitudes over 800 m, flowering from December to March. This species has a scattered distribution and does not usually form clumps.
Widely cultivated in Brazil and overseas, this species has been mistakenly identified in the United States as Canistrum perplexum. It is also common in its rather restricted native habitat. It may occur in the Serra da Bocaina National Park. —SeeLeme 1997a
