Dear Walter,
Do you agree that Deuterocohnia bracteosa is synonym to D.strobilifera (Die Brom 1: 4. 2002) ?
Deuterocohnia bracteosa W.Till & L.Hrom. Bromelia 4(1):.19-22. (1997.)
To me it seems to have a more remote inflorescence, maybe due to cultivation?
Best,
Eric (personal communication)
- During a trip through Bolivia in February 1995 one of us (L.H.) collected a Deuterocohnia specimen for the herbarium. Although the collection site is located at the uppermost elevational range of the genus no special attention was paid to this plant in the field. However, a closer examination in the laboratory revealed that this fragmentarily collected specimen represents a striking new species ' which is immediately recognized by its large primary bracts. Hence we name it after this character which is unusual within the genus (Rauh & Gross, 1991; Smith & Downs, 1974; Spencer & Smith, 1992). —See Bromelia
