- DISCUSSION
The form pallida of C. microps is a regional taxon with striking visual characteristics. The wholly green inflorescence, except for the white petals, makes this bromeliad easy to recognize. This color pattern is not changed by habitat variation (i. e., light, temperature and humidity); it remains constant even when cultivated in the same environment as that to which specimens of the type form were subjected.
The infraspecific taxonomic category used here is consistent with the conception of Pereira & Leme (1986); it is used to depict less important traits that remain constant in the wild and follow a well-defined regional pattern. In this case, the C. microps populations, where specimen Leme 773 was collected, are totally comprised of form pallida.
The habit of C. microps f. pallida is identical to that of the type form. This taxon seems to be exclusive to that part of the Serra do Mar known locally as Serra dos Orgaos as is indicated by the three documented collections of this material (Tingua and Petropolis mountains). It flowers at the same time as the type form and is preserved in the Tingua Biological Reserve. —See Leme 1998
