- John Wurdack's overall contribution to the knowledge of the Guayana flora is legendary, and his collections of Bromeliaceae are among the most important of any collector in the region. Lyman B. Smith recognized the importance of Wurdack's specimens and honored him with the following binomials: Navia wurdackii, Lindmania wurdackii, Pitcairnia wurdackii (= P. bulbosa L.B. Sm.), and Vriesea wurdackii from Venezuela, and Neoregelia wurdackii, Puya wurdackii, and Tillandsia wurdackii from Peru. Also, of the 270 or so Bromeliaceae species known from the Guayana Shield, Wurdack collected, or co-collected the types of 38 species and 4 varieties. —See BioLlania
