Ecological data: Q. quesneliana is frequently found in restingas as terricolous, and as an epiphyte or rupicolous on rocky outcrops in the Atlantic Pluvial Forest, extending to the highland slopes at altitudes ca. 700 m/s.m. It is also observed growing asa terrestrial in coastal forest bogs. In the Reserva Biologica de Poco das Antas this species occurs, according to Chedier & Kaplan (1996), in areas subject to restricted flooding, composed of sub-forests with low arboreal density and high light intensity. It can still be occasionally found as a terrestrial in mangroves.
Geographical distribution: Endemic to the southeast portion of Atlantic Coast, it occurs from north Espírito Santo, reaching the extreme east of Minas Gerais, to the central-south portion of the state of Rio de Janeiro (Fig. 7). There is another report of its occurrence in the south of Bahia (L.C.Gurken, personal comm.), which needs confirmation through future collections made in this area. —See Vieira 2006
