CULTIVATION. As with most of the other members of this genus, A. streptocalycoides inhabits the rain-forest areas of' South America, plants growing epiphyticaily on the forest trees, however, these epiphytic species are very adaptable and in cultivation grow quite successfully terrestrially and without the need of a host support. To grow as a pot plant a 50:50 mixture of medium peat and coarse grit is preferable, with a base fertiliser added at the rate of 142 gm (5 oz) per bushel. In the spring and summer a daily foliar spray of water is advisable, along with a liquid feed fortnightly during this period. It is essential to keep the central 'urn' and leaf axils filled with water. The plant needs to be kept in some shade and out of direct brilliant sunshine to enable the bright red coloration of the leaves at flowering time to reach their best. Careful removal of the offsets, formed at the base of thc plant after flowering, is by far the easiest means of propagation. —SeePhilcox 1985b
