  Apparently, N. apiculatum var serrulatum occurs in the same area as the type variety and also has the same habit. Based on specimen Leme 2000, today in cultivation, this variety is preferentially epiphytic on the lower part of tree trunks at ca. 1,300 to 1,400 m altitude. —See Leme 2000a
