• DISTRI BUTION & HABITAT
  This species is endemic to the Atlantic forest in the Serra da Mantiqueira, Rio de Janeiro. Populations of N. itatiaiae are concentrated in the type locality near Cachoeira do Maromba and are protected in Itatiaia National Park. The species grows in the forest understory as an epiphyte on the lower part of tree trunks and also in a saxicolous habit in shadier parts of the forest, especially along streams, at 600 to 1,200 m altitude. It is practically unknown in cultivation. —See Leme 2000a
