- DISTRIBUTION & HABITAT
Within the genus Nidularium, N. innocentii has one of the largest geographic distributions known, second only to N. procerum. It occurs in the inland mountain ranges of Bahia, in Wenceslau Guimaraes, and also in transitional vegetation near the ocean, but was not recorded in the state of Espirito Santo, an intriguing gap in its distribution. To the south, it passes through the "Torres gateway" in Santa Catarina, and enters Rio Grande do Sul, where it is more common than N. procerum.
Nidularium innocentii is found mainly in the coastal Atlantic forest, but it also appears in the arboreal restinga. It grows from sea level to altitudes of ca. 1,500 m, and may form large terrestrial populations or live in smaller clumps on rocks or as an epiphyte in the lower layer of the forest. Populations have been reported from Rio de Janeiro growing in periodically flooded areas (see chapter 1).
The species is found in several public conservation units throughout its area of occurrence.there are numerous clones in cultivation, representing a significant part of its phenotypic variation. —See Leme 2000a
