This species was originally known as Neoregelia ossifragi L. B. Smith (1962) named it N. mooreana because the name N. ossifragi was used for a long time by horticultural amateurs and was never validity published. It can be readily distinguished by its curled foliar apices, bright and green foliar blades, covered with a white mantle of trichomes, and small rosette size. —SeeRamirez 1991
