- C. paniculata E. Morren was originally described in Jacobs-Makoy horticultural catalogue in 1887. The E. Morren icon apparently was drawn from this plant (see L. B. Smith 1967). C. mexicana L. B. Smith corresponds to the staminate plants of this dioecious species. Endemic to s. and c. Mexico.

On page 102 of this thesis Palaci refers to a perfect flowered C. paniculata. COULD this species be trioecious? —See Palaci 1997
