Comments:

• Note: For a long period of time this species was known as Guzmania pleiosticha (Grisebach) Mez. A later name, G. altsonii L. B. Smith was placed in synonymy of G. pleiosticha (Griseb.) Mez by L. B. Smith himself in his Monograph (Smith & Downs 1977). Study of the type material proved that Fendler 1514 (type of Tillandsia pleiosticha Grisebach) belongs to the same species as Guzmania splitgerberi Mez (based on Splitgerber 966), that is considered to be a Vriesea in present days. Unfortunately T. pleiosticha Grisebach is the oldest name, so that two species have to change in name. —See Gouda 1987
