During his 1982 collecting trip, Alvim Seidel found an interesting vriesea near Ouro in the State of Minas Gerais at an elevation of about 1050 meters. The plant reminded him of a small Vriesea imperialis, but a detailed examination of the specimen received from him last year showed that he had found a hitherto unknown species.
