• Mez considered that this species might be a hybrid of Tillandsia retorta and Tillandsia bryoides, and it seems very likely not only because of the way that it combines the characters of the two but also in its lack of constancy in such traits as the arrangement of the leaves. —See Smith & Downs 1977 p. 881
