OBSERVATIONS. P. glomerifera forms dense groups united by branches of the trunk. Its habitat has been reduced to ravines and borders used to delineate properties, where, thanks to its threatening spines, it impedes the passage of animals. The thick arms of the branches can survive the fires in ravines and on the paramo which are very frequent in the dry season. After a fire the plant appears dead because of its burnt leaves, but, with the first new rains, pups emerge from the central rosette. —SeeManzanares 2005
