Locality records of this species attributed to Guyana (British Guiana) and Bolivar state in eastern Venezuela (Smith 1971, 1974) are Brocchinia micrantha or B. tatei. Brocchinia paniculata is a large epiphytic or terrestrial species that can easily be distinguished from all other species in the genus by the presence of peltate scales on the inflorescence. Other species have inflorescences that are either glabrous or with simple or branched scales. As currently known, its distribution is eastern Colombia (Vaupes) and western Venezuela (Amazonas), at 100-1500 m elevation. —SeeBioLlania
