P. nobilis has not been found since the type collection in 1886, principally because the habitat
has been lost due to agricultural expansion. The inflorescence and leaf petioles are close to P. sodiroi , but it differs in that it is acaulescent and P. sodiroi has long stems. In Peru, in the region of Amazonia near San Martin, a closely related species has been found with red
flowers (Al Gentry et al. 37666, SEL). —SeeSmith & Downs 1974
