Publication:—Bromélia 3(4): 9-12. (1996)
Abstract:—This species keys out to Bromelia tarapotina Ule, using the Identification key by Smith & Downs, but it differs by having highly connate sepals, which are free in B. tarapotina. It resembles most Bromelia gurkeniana Pereira & Mouthinho and B. tubulosa L. B. Smith, to which it is probably more closely related. It is intermediate in leaf blade width, but it has much longer leaves, not narrowed between sheath and blade and strongly channelled with slightly revolute margins and abaxially appressed lepidote between the nerves. It differs further from B. gurkeniana by having longer sepals (23-26 mm vs. 15 mm) which are highly connate and carinate, and from B. tubulosa by having much smaller floral bracts (2.7 cm vs. 4 cm)
