A new species and a new subspecies of Deuterocohnia (Bromeliaceae) from Santa Cruz Department, Bolivia

Abstract:—Deuterocohnia gableana Vásquez & Ibisch (Bromeliaceae). from the Florida province in the Department of Santa Cruz, Bolivia. is described and illustrated. It is related to D. scapigera but diffërs, among others characters, by having larger rosettes with less-branched stems not forming large cushions. recurved. longer and wider leaves, much shorter floral bracts not exceeding the sepals. and green petals. Including this new taxon. twelve Deuterocohnia species are known from Bolivia: this country represents the diversity and endemism center of the genus. Deuterocohnia scapigera stibsp .sanctae-crucis Vásquez & Ibisch from the inter-Andean valleys of the Santa Cruz Department is distinguished from the typical subspecies from the drier inter-Andean valleys of Potosi by much smaller flowers.
