Guzmania tayuensis (Bromeliaceae) a new, very small, Tillandsia-like species from Amazonas, Peru

Abstract:—A rare new Guzmania species is described, illustrated and compared with its morphological most similar species, Guzmania angustifolia?(Baker) Wittmack?(1889: 62). This in appearance Tillandsia like species grows terrestrial or saxicolous on rock of a small mountain range in northern Peru. It has a brown seed appendix (pappus) and the sepals distinctly connate into a tube, that places it in this genus. It differs from all other Guzmania species by its very short and narrowly triangular and cinereous lepidote leaf blades, relatively long caulescent habit and terrestrial growth (not seen in other small species).
