Abstract:—Due to the unexpected discovery of the previously unknown name Guzmania spectabilis Linden ex Galeotti, the currently used Guzmania spectabilis (Mez & Wercklé) Utley is revealed as an illegitimate later homonym. A replacement name is published for the latter name. In addition, a neotype is designated for Guzmania spectabilis Linden ex Galeotti, which serves as basionym of Aechmea spectabilis (Linden ex Galeotti) Brongn. ex Houllet.
