Abstract:—The authors describe and illustrate a new species of Tillandsioid epiphytic bromeliad, Werauhia talamancana, from the mountains of southern Central America. This new species is related to W. brunei by its smooth, lustrous and distichous floral bracts (not secund) at anthesis but differs from the latter by its larger flowers and brown-maroon floral bracts (versus greenish). This new species belongs to section Werauhia and is part of a group of species with spicate simple inflorescences with relatively large floral bracts.
