Abstract:—A characterization of the bromeliads production at Paraná State (Brazil) is presented, evidencing particularities and discrepancies related to what was reported on literature as being proper for this crop. Field research, participatory observation and interviews were used to collect data. The main problem registered was the adoption of a unique standard model for the culture of different bromeliad species. Although this process facilitates field work and demands less workmanship of the producer, it does not contemplate the individual necessities of each species regarding luminosity, substrate and fertilization. This process reduces the final quality of the product as well as its potential commercialization price. It is recommended to extension agents and agronomic institutions that guide the producers to promote the adequacy of cultivation practice in accordance with each cultivated species.
