Abstract:—My interest in undertaking this study was aroused by conversations with Dr. Archie Carr who has examined many tank bromeliads in various parts of Central America. His enthusiasm over the many types of life found in them, and his curiosity concerning how these organisms manage to live in such an environment, as well as the fact that very little was known about chemical and physical factors in the water caught in these plants, made the projection of such a study seem very worthwhile.
