German title:—Xeromorphe Bromelien aus Brasilien (III): Cryptanthus heimenii, eine neue Art aus Sergipe

Abstract:—In May 2018 Gerhard Heimen and Pierre Braun travelled in the state of Sergipe, northeastern Brazil, in order to study the recently in 2014 described Melocactus sergipensis in habitat. On May 9th they found the type locality. It became obvious that the locality is extremely small and endangered. Only 50–60 plants could be encountered. Accompanying bromeliads were Hohenbergia and Tillandsia. The following day they explored the far surrounding areas in order to find further populations. Fortunately, in a distance of about 10 km, a small rocky plain with a richer associated flora could be found. Together with cacti on and beside the rocks small, xerophytic bromeliads were growing. They resembled Dyckia or Orthophytum. Very soon flowering plants were seen, which gave proof being a species of Cryptanthus. On September 15th the habitat could be revisited for further studies.
