German title:—Eine neue felsbewohnende Art aus West-Bahia, Brasilien: Encholirium bracteatum

Abstract:—Encholirium is an endemic genus of Bromeliaceae in Brazil. As we know today there is a high diversity of species in the Campos Rupestres of the Serra do Espinhaço in central Minas Gerais. But also the very carstic so-called Bambui limestones of the Rio São Francisco valley in northern Minas Gerais and western Bahia harbor several micro-endemics (species occurring exclusively in very limited areas). Recently published novelties from this region are Encholirium viride (Braun & Esteves 2017), Encholirium pierre-braunii (Esteves 2017), Encholirium splendidum and Encholirium fragae (Forzza & Leme 2015). The latter is a greyish-silvery lepidote representative similar to the here described Encholirium bracteatum. The new species is occurring further north, also exclusively to be encountered on naked Bambui outcrops. The authors know the new species since 1980. The habitat was revisited numerous times when exploring the region in order to increase the knowledge of occurence and distribution of xeric plants, mainly cacti and bromeliads.
