Abstract:—After 15 years of observation and doubts about the identity of a single specimen collected in 1991 T. lagunaensis Ehlers, spec. nov. from Lagunas, Oaxaca, Mexico is described here. To ensure the state of a new species it was necessary to collect more specimens. This occurred in 2005 in another area than in 1991. There, a reasonable big population could be stated and a hybrid origin excluded. It is similar to T. calothyrsus Mez, but differs in some important characteristics such as the more grey appearance of the whole plant, shorter internodes at the scape, more erect and longer spikes and many details of the flower, namely the small petals that include the stamens.
