Abstract:—Billbergla jandebrabanderi sp. nov. is similar to B. rupestris from the northern Amazon but it differs, among others, by shorter leaves and much smaller floral bracts (to 3 mm long, not 2 cm). lt is also somewhat similar to B. oxvsepala and B. violacea but these species, among others, differ for having unequal sepals and shorter flowers. B. cardenasii is different for having shorter orange sepals and yellow petals. lt has to be revised if B. violacea really occurs in Bolivia, or if the corresponding specimens were misidentified. The new species is found in the pre-Andean humid forests of the Santa Cruz department nearby the Andean knee. These forests represent the southwesternmost extension of the Amazon rain forest (ecoregion Southwest Amazon) dose to the transition to the semideciduous Chiquitano Dry Forest. The pre-Andean humid forests of Santa Cruz are among the most threatened rain forests of Bolivia with deforestation advancing rapidly along the roads.
