Abstract:—Near Loxicha, Oaxaca, Mexico, Renate and Klaus Ehlers found a plant from which they assumed of being T. nolleriana, which is abundant in this region. But coming into flower it was obvious that this was a new species. lt differs from T. notteriana by propagating without stolons, the inflorescence is bipinnate, spikes and bracts are somewhat smaller; the bracts are as long as the sepals, not lepidote at the apex. It differs from T. calothvrsus by being much smaller; infiorescence not thyrsoid, only 15 cm long with very short primary bracts which are as long as the flower bracts; flower bracts arc twice (not 3 x) as long as the internodes and not prominentlv carinate, only slightly at the tip which is not lepidote; sepals not lepidote, the anterior ones half connate.
