Abstract:—In many bromeliad collections a very‘ attractive grey tillandsia is cultivated under the non valid name „Tillandsia lautneri“. 20 years ago J. Lautner found this plant growing on steep rocks near El Tule, Oaxaca, Mexico. lt is now described as Tillandsia mitlaensis var. tulensis, differing from T. mitlaensis by forming a long, caulescent stern. The leaves are grey white appressed, not white pruinose lepidote. Mounted on vertical rock it can be easily cultivated like many other grey tillandsias.
