Abstract:—Ramón Ferreyra has been my very good friend ever since he came to the old Gray Herbarium at Harvard to study his native flora of Peru. He used to come to my home on weekends and play games with my family and friends. When returned to Peru he sent collections to us for identification and among these were specimens of Puya. Puya is difficult to collect since nearly all grow above tree line and require strong climbing to reach and then the plants are large and tough and protected by leaves with wicked thorns. Over the years Ramon has collected many new species and even now keeps on with one more.
