Drei neue Bromelienarten aus Bolivien: Bittbergia mohammadii, Pitcairnia heydtauffii und Puya cochabambensis

Abstract:—Three new species of Bromeliaceae from Bolivia are described and illustrated. Billbergia mohammadii R. Visquez & P. L. Ibisch, sp. nov., from the dry Chaco forest (Dpto. Santa Cruz, Prov. Cordillera) is differentiated from B. velascana Cárdenas by the smaller and triangular (not oval) floral bracts, shorter and triangular (not oval) sepals, blue-violet (not cobalt) petals with multitoothed lamellas and larger ovaries and epigenous tubes. Pitcairnia heydlauffii R. Väsquez & P. L. Ibisch, sp. nov., from the perhumid rain forest of the Chapare region (Dpto. Cochabamba, Prov. Chapare) differs frorn the similar Pitcairnia amboroensis Ibisch, Vásquez, Gross & Kessier in longer and broader leaves. green and glabrous (not red and lepidote) floral bracts, shorter and whitish (not red) sepals and shorter petals and stamens. Puya cochabambensis R. Väsquez & P. L. Ibisch, sp. nov., from the central high Andes (Dpto. Cochabamba, Prov. Ayopaya) has red brown stel]ate scales like Puya ferruginea R. & P. but differs clearty in the caespitose growth form, the small size of the plants, stiff (not lax and slender) and much smaller leaves with smaller spines, simple (not paniculate) inflorescence, secund, suberect to horizontal (not pendulous) flowers. lanceolate (not ovate) floral bracts, ovate triangular (not ovate-linear) sepals and ovate-linear (not linear) petals. The number of officially recorded and described Bolivian species of the genera Biltbergia, Pitcainia and Puya ascends to 9, 16 and 56 respectively.
