A New Combination in Vriesea from Costa Rica

Abstract:—Tillandsia castaneo-bulbosa Mez & Wercklé endemic of Costa Rica, is removed from synonomy with Vriesea incurva (Grisebach) R.W.Read, and V castaneo-bulbosa (Mez & Wercklé) J.R. Grant is proposed as a new combination. Tillandsia castaneo-bulbosa Mez & Wercklê (1903), was reduced to synon omy with T incurva by Smith (1938). Read (1968) subsequently transferred the latter species to Vriesea. Recent collections from Costa Rica as well as the discovery of several misidentified specimens have shown this taxon to be distinct from V incurva
